Poetics of the Everyday: Amateur Photography, 1890–1970

“Poetics of the Everyday: Amateur Photography, 1890-1970” at the Saint Louis Art Museum brings new life to a collection of found photographs. The subjects of the photographs range from the domestic to the bizarre, each striking in composition. The people and histories behind the images remain mostly a mystery, but the snapshots themselves whisper of untold stories waiting to be revealed. The pictures are both a window to the past and a reflection of they very modern and very human need to memorialize our everyday lives through imagery. The collection comes to the museum as a gift from John and Teenuh Foster.
