A sea of green engulfed the lobby of the Center of Creative Art’s (COCA) Emerson Theater last night for the 2nd Annual St. Louis Theater Circle Awards. St. Patrick’s Day was put on the backburner as more than 300 actors, actresses, friends and family celebrated local theater and the people in it.
The Higher Education Channel was honored to be apart of the celebration and is excited to share with you exclusive footage of the event, as well as individual nominee red carpet interviews.
We are also delighted to share each moving and sometimes hysterical acceptance speech.
The Mustard Seed Theatre Company seemed to be the big winner at last night’s award ceremony, with six awards in all – five being in the musical category for its production of “All Is Calm.” Sarah Godefroid Cannon also won Outstanding Actress for the company for its musical, “Jaye Eyre.”
The St. Louis Actors’ Studio walked away with five awards – four being for its comedy, “Waiting for Godot.” The Studio also won for “King Lear,” with the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama award going to Bobby Miller.
Stages St. Louis and the St. Louis Repertory, which dominated the awards last year, held their own, both being the recipient of four Circle Awards.
The Black Rep, Muny and Shakespeare Festival St. Louis all took home two awards.
In all, 22 local theater productions from 13 professional theater companies received Circle awards for outstanding work, which you can only see on HEC-TV’s website here.
We thank all of you for the opportunity to be apart of this joyous and memorable occasion and we are already looking forward to next year’s award ceremony!
