28 things do in St. Louis this fall

    A few things are true about fall in St. Louis: the trees along the Mississippi and Missouri River bluffs settling into autumn gives Upstate New York a run for its money, and there is never a dull week or weekend when it comes to fall and Halloween events in St. Louis. Here are a few – eh, a lot:

    Craftoberfest | Oct. 12
    Craftoberfest is St. Louis’ first open-air night market showcasing the best in modern craft + design. Craftoberfest will feature more than 35 local makers, designers, curators + creative entrepreneurs, as well as locally brewed craft beer, live music, and Tarot readings under the stars and twinkling lights of Urban Chestnut’s Midtown Brewery + Biergarten.

    Great Godfrey Maze | Weekends in October
    The Great Godfrey Maze is open on the weekends in the fall for general admission. On Friday and Saturday nights, the maze will be open after dark. Each visitor is required to have a flashlight to help navigate the twists and turns of the Great Godfrey Maze.

    Hermann Oktoberfest | Weekends in October
    Weekends in October, Hermann Oktoberfest will include German food, live music, winery tours, beer and more at the Stone Hill Winery in Hermann, MO. Held every weekend in October, the Hermann Oktoberfest has become a beloved tradition for thousands throughout the Midwest. It’s time to celebrate a beautiful time of year in Missouri’s most beautiful town.

    St. Louis Renaissance Faire | Oct 13-15
    Enjoy entertainment ranging from pirates to jousting to juggling to turkey legs, and more! There’s something for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to check out the new features, including Game of Thrones Tavern, Magic the Live Unicorn, Giant Royal Puppets, and more!

    Fest of Ale | Oct. 13
    This event celebrates local beer, and the region’s microbreweries bring their best offerings to the Garden for tasting. Ticket price includes a commemorative tasting glass, beer sampling, and live music provided by Mike Mattingly. New this year, food will be available for purchase.

    The 5th Annual Brew in The Lou | Oct. 14
    Brew in the Lou showcaseS St. Louis’ best beer, wine, spirits, coffee and good eats.  Proceeds benefit the Lutheran Elementary School Association’s 35 member schools serving 9,000 students.  Festivities include live entertainment, arts and craft vendors, the “People’s Choice” Home Brew, Bratwurst and Chili Contest, and special food exhibits.

    St. Louis Small Press Expo | Oct. 14
    More than 80 independent publishers will show and sell their work in the Great Hall of the St. Louis Public Library’s Central Library. Exhibitors represent a wide variety of formats, including comics, traditional books, art & literary magazines, organizations, zines, and much more.

    Arch Bark | Oct. 14
    Enjoy the expanded Arch park with your dog at Arch Bark, presented by Royal Canin. This new signature event is free and open to the public. Celebrate the dog-friendly Arch park grounds with a variety of activities for dog lovers and their four-legged companions!

    Harvest Festival at Laumeier Sculpture Park | Oct. 15
    More than 3,500 patrons attend Sauce Magazine‘s annual event featuring fall foods and beverages from St. Louis’ top restaurants, a farmers market, locally made arts and crafts, live music and more on the Park grounds.

    Barktoberfest | Oct. 17
    It’s the doggo social event of the season! Tickets include Urban Chestnut brews and treats for your pup, a doggie costume contest, and games for pets and people!

    Boo at the Zoo | Oct. 17-30
    Bring your little ghouls and goblins for a non-scary, kid-friendly Halloween experience. Children are encouraged to wear costumes. Children 12 and under will receive a treat bag upon exiting. Boo at the Zoo Nights is not a trick-or-treating experience.

    Fox Theatre Ghost Tour | Oct. 16, 23, 30
    The Fabulous Fox Ghost Tours will explore the untold history of the many ghost sightings and unexplained occurrences reported at the Fabulous Fox during its 88-year history. The Fabulous Fox Ghost Tours will offer an evening of spine-chilling tales from Fox staff members and first-hand accounts from investigations by paranormal researchers. Go behind the scenes of the Fabulous Fox to see what happens after the shows have closed and the stage lights go dim.

    Terror at Tower Grove | Oct. 20
    This is a family-friendly event featuring live music by Soul Punch, food trucks in partnership with Sauce Magazine, candy, arts and crafts staffed by Artscope, a costume contest, a parade sponsored by Johnnie Brock’s Dungeon, a Halloween film by Frontyard Features and more! It’s sure to be a GHOULishly good time! Costumes are encouraged.

    CWE Harvest Festival | Oct. 21
    The Central West End Harvest Festival will be held within two areas of the neighborhood, at Laclede and Sarah St., and Lindell and Euclid. Experience both parties via hayride! Featuring food, beverages, music, marketplace vendors and more. Dog-friendly event. Proceeds and donations going to hurricane relief efforts.

    Benton Park Free the Spirit Festival | Oct. 21-22
    Free The Spirit is a fun family fall festival! There will be live music, food trucks, face painting, kid zone, fall festivities, and interactive art, as well as yoga, acro yoga, dance, and fitness.  It’s a mission to spark the interest and inspire each one of us to creatively express our unique self.

    City Wide Block Party | Oct. 22
    City Wide was a brand created as an effort to give back to local organizations and neighborhoods within St. Louis. St. Louis is welcome to gether at the brewery for the opportunity for to learn and celebrate their contributions within St. Louis. In addition to there will be live music, delicious food and plenty of family-friendly fun!

    Spirits in the Garden | Oct. 27
    Celebrate All Hallows’ Eve with the spirit of Henry Shaw while sampling tastings from local distilleries, wineries and breweries! Strut your stuff in a costume contest, seek out “Wicked Plants” in a scavenger hunt, dance the night away to spooky tunes, take the haunted tram tour, watch classic horror movies, meet local paranormal investigators, enjoy a fortune teller, fire breather and stilt walker and learn about the spirited history of the Garden.

    Reel Late at the Tivoli: The Rocky Horror Picture Show | Oct. 27-29
    It’s a Halloween tradition! The longest-running midnight movie of all time stars Tim Curry as the kinky yet endearing “transsexual from Transylvania” Dr. Frank N. Furter, Susan Sarandon and Barry Bostwick as his hapless guests Brad and Janet, Meat Loaf as motorcycle-riding rough trade and author Richard O’Brien as the hunchbacked butler Riff Raff. It’s harmless musical fun—a delightful spoof of Hollywood horror movies and Old Dark House melodramas. The Rocky Horror Picture Show was the first—and is still the best—interactive movie experience!

    Kimmswick Apple Butter Festival | Oct. 28-29
    100’s of vendor booths will fill the city park and line the streets of Kimmswick selling a variety of crafts and food items. Live entertainment will also be provided by the city of Kimmswick and the Kimmswick Merchants.

    CWE Halloween | Oct. 28
    It’s the biggest Halloween party in town, hands down. Festivities kick off with fun daytime activities for the whole family. Then, as the sun sets, the party continues with an adults-only bash and costume contest, known for its elaborate, complex and outrageous costumes and featuring $6,000 in cash and prizes!

    Fright Fest | Through Oct. 31
    It’s a spooky time of year as zombies and ghouls take over Six Flags! Enjoy thrills and activities for the whole family throughout the day and come back for a truly frightening evening of fun after the sun goes down. Fright Fest offers a wide variety of places to get your scare on including several haunted houses and scare zones located throughout the park. The stuff of nightmares lurk around every corner as the dark of night washes over the park. The ghouls are set free for their daily hunting rituals. BEWARE! There is no place to hide!

    Ghost Hunting at the Lemp Mansion | Dates Vary
    This is a new generation of ghost hunting! The price of the event includes soft drinks or cocktails, appetizers, and the use of an infrared camera to record your journey through three floors of a darkened Lemp Mansion!

    The Whitaker St. Louis International Film Festival | November 2-12
    This film festival showcases the very best in cutting-edge features and shorts from around the globe. The majority of the more than 400+ films screened – many of them critically lauded award-winners – will receive their only St. Louis exposure at the festival.

    Schlafly Full Moon Festival | Nov. 4
    What better way to celebrate the harvest full moon than with Schlafly beer, a pig roast, live music and fall themed activities?!

    The Lantern Fest | Nov. 4-5
    At The Lantern Fest, thousands of revelers join together armed with lanterns for one unforgettable spectacle. Before sundown friends and families can enjoy food, live music, a stage show, familiar princesses, face painters, s’mores, balloon artists and more. Then, when the time is just right, we will light the sky with our highest hopes and fondest dreams.

    Scarefest | Through Nov. 4
    Scarefest is a group of St. Louis’s scariest haunted houses, including Creepy World, The Darkness, St. Louis Escape, and even includes Zombie Lazer Tag!

    Wine Festival | Nov. 5
    Guests will sample dozens of wines from around the world and are challenged to find their favorite at this giant wine tasting event. Festival goers will receive a Pere Marquette Lodge wine glass along with tasting rights to all of the featured wines displayed throughout the Lodge.  Participants can enjoy dozens of wines, listen and dance to live music, munch on appetizers, check out our unique vendors and relish in a day full of wine all for a good cause.  Pere Marquette Lodge will be donating a portion of the proceeds from the Wine Festival to the Friends of Pere Marquette State Park Foundation.
