The “Trees of Treloar” is a planting of native Missouri trees along and near the Treloar Trailhead on the Katy Trail. Before being cleared for today’s farm fields, the river bottom near Treloar was filled with large pecan, oak, and sycamore trees. Fruiting trees pawpaw and permisson provided food for Native Americans and early settlers. The goal of “Trees of Treloar” is to reforest areas along the Katy in collaboration with Forest ReLeaf of Missouri. There are many benefits to reforesting aside from providing shade and relief to Katy Trail visitors. This mission will provide habitats for wildlife and pollinators, and help runoff control for a healthy watershed.
