This season at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis there are three artists on view. Gala Porras-Kim’s work studies cultural heritage preservation by examining pre-colonial artifacts. Porras-Kim asks the audience to declare new meanings to the artifacts on display. Martine Gutierrez explores personal and collective identity through her site-specific multimedia installation: HIT MOVIE: Vol 1, a video art piece featuring femme fatale characters directed by Gutierrez. Lastly, Alia Farid also presents a video installation: At the Time of the Ebb (2019). The film examines the Fisherman’s New Year festival in Qeshm which involves community dress up and dancing in celebration. This current exhibition is open till July 24th, 2022.
