Gas-Filled Balloon May Offer Weight Loss Option

The newest non-surgical option for treating obesity is awaiting FDA approval. Gastroenterologist Dr. Shelby Sullivan, Director of Bariatric Endoscopy at Washington University School of Medicine, talks to HEC-TV’s Victoria Babu about her research using three gas-filled balloons to help with weight loss. The balloons are swallowed and then filled with gas. They can be removed after a few weeks and seem to cause fewer side-effects than other devices used to fill up the stomach. Patient Lisa Whealon talks about her journey and was among those who participated in the year-long trial study.
