St. Louis — The Greater St. Louis Book Fair, one of the largest and longest-running book fairs in the Midwest, announces the 2014 grant recipients. Thousands of area children will benefit from this iconic St. Louis event. The Fair, entering its 66th year, is run by volunteers and proceeds are used to fund area nonprofit literacy and education programs. The 2014 recipients are:

Academic enrichment for 60 low-income children whose families receive Family Support Services

Literacy workshops and Reading Changes Lives initiative
Oasis Institute
Intergenerational tutoring program
Parent as Teachers
Parent-Teacher-Child reading activities and pre-reading strategies
Ready Readers
Training of hundreds of volunteers to read to thousands of local low-income pre-school aged children
St. Louis Area Women Religious Collaborative Ministries
English tutoring for immigrant students
St. Louis Library Foundation
Gift of Reading program in the Normandy School District for preschool and kindergarten students
University City Children’s Choir
Living Books Literacy Program – books, ethnic dolls, and people-color crayons. The goal is to teach children about reading, diversity and tolerance in a single program through reading, play and art.
The 2015 Greater St. Louis Book Fair will take place April 30 to May 3 at Macy’s at West County Center in Des Peres. The event features millions of new and used books; hundreds of rare and collectible books, movies, music, comics and ephemera. Offerings include first editions, limited editions, out of print editions, signed copies and other treasures. Volunteers are always needed.
