Horsehair Pottery

Sandy Schulz has practiced the art of horsehair pottery for many years – a technique she first learned about in her travels to the southwest. After throwing and bisque-firing a raku clay pot, Sandy Schulz heats the pot back up and burns hair from a horse’s tail onto the pot. This ancient Navajo art form originally was used to celebrate the birth of a great horse but now Sandy often uses this art form to honor our beloved equine companions who have passed away.
