ST. LOUIS – The Jazz Edge, Inc. presents a “A Tribute to St. Louis Women of Jazz” in the Lee Theater at the Touhill Performing Arts Center at 6:00PM on Sunday, March 22, 2015. This concert features Marsha Evans (vocal), Denise Thimes (vocal), Dawn Weber (trumpet and vocal), Carolbeth True (piano) and Hope Walker (saxophone). The 17-piece Jazz Edge Orchestra, under the direction of Thomas Moore, will perform throughout. Tickets are $30 and $15 for students and may be obtained on line at touhill.org or at the door.

Women have made contributions to the world of jazz since its inception and St. Louis has always been at the forefront. In conjunction with Women’s History Month, the Jazz Edge, Inc. turns the spotlight on some of St. Louis’ current female jazz artists. This program includes an evening of jazz standards and also a few soon to be standards.

Now in their 25th year, The Jazz Edge Orchestra is a dynamic 17-piece big band playing original charts from the Big Band Era like Count Basie and Duke Ellington, while blending these selections with Earth, Wind and Fire and other pop compositions for a combination of jazz, swing, blues and pop. This mix of old-school and contemporary brings audiences to the dance floor time and time again.

The Jazz Edge Orchestra exhibits great musicianship, versatility, creativity, historical correctness and depth. Over the last 25 years they have performed with Frank Foster, Clark Terry, Melton Mustafa, Lester Bowie, Wallace Roney, Geri Allen, Jimmy Wilkins, James Moody, Hugh “Peanuts” Whalum, Ed Shaughnessy, Oliver Nelson, Jr., Frank Wess, Jackie Terrason, Chuck Berry, The Cunninghams and Hal Singer just to name a few.
