Rude and crude treatment is what you can expect at Karen’s Diner in south St. Louis, the first of its kind in the U.S.
The restaurant’s name comes from the internet slang term “Karen,” used to describe an older white woman who is stereotypically rude.
The restaurant chain is based in Australia with the concept of “great burgers and rude service” and encourages its staff to be unpleasant to diners. Videos of servers insulting diners gained millions of views on TikTok since the first restaurant opened in Sydney in October of 2022.
