Lark Ascending: A Conversation with Silas House

Silas House’s new novel “Lark Ascending” is a captivating coming of age story about a young man who flees a burning and divided United States in the hopes of finding refuge in Ireland. As he runs for his life after losing everything, Lark finds two equally lost and desperate souls: one of the last remaining dogs, who becomes his closest companion, and a fierce, mysterious woman in search of her lost son. House (“Southernmost,” “Clay’s Quilt”), who lives, writes and teaches in his native Kentucky, said he began writing “Lark Ascending” after facing a devastating loss of his own – the death of a close family member whose love, loyalty and belief inspired him to become the writer he is today.
