Melissa Wolfe Re-imagines the American Galleries at SLAM

The Saint Louis Art Museum re-opens their American Gallery with both familiar works and pieces which have not been seen by the public in more than a decade. Melissa Wolfe, curator and head of the Department of American Art, has restructured the gallery into eight sections: Imagining a New Nation; Everyday Americans; Paintings, Sculpture, and the “New World”; Dialogues in American Sculpture; American Still Life; The Gilded Age; The Modern World; and The American Scene. Each of these thematic galleries highlights artistic developments in a loose chronology of the American experience from the early days of independence through the 1940s.
