Poet and Essayist Ross Gay on “Inciting Joy”

For poet and essayist Ross Gay, incitements to joy can be found in unexpected places—a pickup basketball game, skateboarding, even in grief. His new book “Inciting Joy” explores the ways meaning and joy come from caring for one another and connecting with others. The essays are not only timely but beautifully written. He sees in his own life the way joy incites in times of both sorrow and happiness. True joy, in his definition, arises from “radical collaborations” with others.
