Rapid Detection of Infections with Bacterioscan for UTIs & More Underway

St. Louis-based Bacterioscan offers technology that can quickly detect urinary tract infections for better treatment, helping to avoid overprescribing antibiotics when the infection is only suspected. Bacterioscan received FDA approval for its application detecting UTI’s. The company claims its technology, using lasers to detect the infection, is much quicker than standard laboratories. Due to the rapidness of the test, Bacterioscan claims it could cut down on the overprescribing of antibiotics. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UTIs are among the most common infections in Americans. Bacterioscan has plans to also provide rapid detection of other infections.
