Magician David Kwong is making tickets disappear quickly for The Enigmatist, his solo outing in the Emerson Studio Theatre. Act soon if you want to see this marvelous show. It’s this year’s final offering in The Rep’s Steve Woolf Studio Series.
In two enthralling acts, Kwon interweaves astonishing close-up magic with clever puzzles for the audience to solve. Along the way, he shares the story of two of America’s greatest cryptologists.
Kwong is at much as ease interacting with audience as he is with his tricks, and his showmanship is as brilliant as his technique. Many tricks are even more impressive than they seem at first, like fireworks with multiple pinwheels that go off in succession.
The Enigmatist engages the audience even before the show begins. There are four puzzles in the lobby for theatergoers to solve before entering the theater. The solutions are helpful later, so it’s worthwhile arriving early to explore the puzzles.
The magic and puzzle-solving continue through April 5 in the Loretto-Hilton Center, 130 Edgar Road.
