Schankman’s St. Louis: St. Louis Based Documentary Getting Critical Acclaim

    A new documentary, shot over a two-year period in St. Louis, is getting critical acclaim. It is called “For Akheem,” and follows the story of a 17-year-old girl living in North St. Louis, ordered by a judge to attend an innovative St. Louis school, sometimes called “the school of last resort” for troubled kids. During the time the filmmakers followed her story, she gave birth to a baby boy named Akheem. The only narration in the film is his the baby’s mother reading her journal entries meant for her newborn son.
