Significant Billboards

Along the Mississippi floodplain just east of Saint Louis, in the geographic region known as the American Bottom, photographer Jennifer Colten and writer Jesse Vogler collaborate to bring their ongoing project Significant and Insignificant Mounds into the communities the work reflects. Colten and Vogler use images and text to bring a longer historical and critical perspective to the varying relationships to the land. With the support of Saint Louis Art Museum, Colten and Vogler have designed six billboards to be installed over the course of October, November and December with the last coming down at the end of January.
