Two on the Aisle Celebrates its 50th Episode

    Hi There,

It’s no secret that St. Louis has a vibrant theater and performing arts environment.  More than 40 professional companies in the metro area have offered theater lovers a wide variety of musical, comedic, seasonal, even outdoor performances for more than 100 years.

Bob Wilcox and Gerry Kowarsky are two of St. Louis’ most respected theater critics and have been a team for more than two decades. They review everything St. Louis theater has to offer, ranging from amateur to professional local performances and national tours. Unquestionably, Kowarsky and Wilcox are the go-to opinion leaders when it comes to St. Louis theater.

HEC-TV teamed with Bob and Gerry in 2011 to provide viewers a backstage pass to St. Louis theater. They host a bi-monthly show on HEC-TV called Two on the Aisle, where they give their expertise of current productions in the area. The program is unique because the reviews feature video clips to go along with their commentary, providing a visual record of the performances. “Finding the right visuals to go with our comments is key to the show’s success” – Gerry Kowarsky

Two on the Aisle has established itself as a program that truly embodies St. Louis’ theater community. It has seen ongoing success, particularly since it started airing on HEC-TV. In 2012, Kowarsky and Wilcox were honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Arts for Life organization. In addition, the National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors (NATOA) presented a Government Programming Award to the show for the show’s new animated opening.

“The upbeat animation of the opening creates an entertaining viewing experience and sets the mood for the show” – Two on the Aisle Producer Chris Martinez.

Today, November 29th, Kowarsky and Wilcox celebrate their 50th episode of Two on the Aisle on HEC-TV.  This is truly a milestone as it shows the longevity of the show-and St. Louis theater in general. The fact that Wilcox and Kowarsky continually produce bi-monthly reviews shows the breadth of our city’s theater environment and that St. Louis is doing something right in performing arts.

Two on the Aisle airs the first and third Thursday of the month and can be viewed on demand at hectv.org
