Year of International Human Rights: Tuesdays in September Film Series
    MADE IN INDIA
(Rebecca Haimowitz, Vaishali Sinha, 2010, USA/India, 95 min.)
MADE IN INDIA documents the human experiences behind the phenomena of
“outsourcing” surrogate mothers to India. The film shows the journey of an
infertile American couple, an Indian surrogate, and the reproductive
outsourcing business that brings them together. Weaving together these personal
stories within the context of a growing international industry, MADE IN INDIA
explores a complicated clash of families in crisis, reproductive technology,
and choice from a global perspective.

    Wednesday, September 3 at 8:00PM

cinematic style since his days as the Monty Python animator.  Presented in the

    CODE BLACK
(Ryan McGarry, 2013, USA, 78 min.)
In his arresting filmmaking debut, physician Ryan McGarry penetrates the chaos
of the E.R.  – where he began his emergency medicine residency – to probe
issues at the heart of today’s health care debate. With extraordinary access
to life-and-death moments, McGarry follows a dedicated team of bright,
energetic doctors as they grapple with the divide between their ideals and the
reality of practicing medicine in a complex and overburdened system. Their
training ground and source of inspiration is “C-Booth,” Los Angeles County
Hospital’s notorious trauma bay, a place in which “more people have died and
more people have been saved than in any other square footage in the United
    States.”

    Friday, September 5 at 7:30PM
