Stories I Want to Tell with Novelist Alex George

For months, Missouri author Alex George would escape to Paris at 5 a.m. while the rest of his family slept. He sipped his espresso while reminiscing about the city where he once studied and worked. He met four incredible characters with heartbreaking stories of loss. And, then, he’d return to Missouri, and work as an attorney and bookshop owner. It was all in his imagination, but his readers get to enjoy the results of these early morning mental excursions in his latest novel, “The Paris Hours.” In this conversation, we discuss how he came up with the book’s stunning ending and the challenges it brought, what’s it like to sell your own books in your bookshop and his suggestion for the perfect uplifting read during a pandemic.
