The Lioness: A conversation with novelist Chris Bohjalian

In October 2019, beloved bestselling novelist Chris Bohjalian (Midwives, The Flight Attendant) and his wife, photographer Victoria Blewer, took the trip of a lifetime – a photo safari in the Serengeti. But this wasn’t an idle vacation. Bohjalian was hatching the plot for a new novel, while Blewer was taking the gorgeous photos that would appear in it. Their adventure became The Lioness, a scorching, cinematic tale of fame, race, love and death in 1960’s Hollywood and Africa. In The Lioness, Bohjalian channels the thrill and suspense of addictive television with the thought-provoking power of the written word when he asks us to consider a terrifying question: “What would [you] do when the worst that can happen really happens?”
