In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the Pulitzer Arts Foundation presents Dialogues & Conversations, an exhibition organized by founder and board chair Emily Rauh Pulitzer. Bringing together over 35 artists and spanning from the late 19th century to today, the exhibition explores the relationships, exchanges, and influences that shape artistic practice across generations.

In this interview, Executive Director Cara Starke reflects on the vision behind the exhibition and the deeper idea of “dialogue” as both a curatorial approach and a lived experience. The conversation highlights Emily Rauh Pulitzer’s longstanding relationships with artists such as Ellsworth Kelly and Richard Serra, offering insight into how personal connection, trust, and sustained engagement can shape the way art is collected, exhibited, and understood.

Dialogues & Conversations features more than 85 works—including sculpture, painting, drawing, print, and photography—by artists such as Edgar Degas, Willem de Kooning, David Hammons, and Doris Salcedo, among many others. Works from Emily Rauh Pulitzer’s personal collection are placed in conversation with major loans and acquisitions from institutions including The Museum of Modern Art, as well as works connected to her curatorial history with the Harvard Art Museums and the Saint Louis Art Museum.

The exhibition also reflects on the Pulitzer’s own history, reintroducing works from past exhibitions and marking 25 years of artistic collaboration, scholarship, and exchange.
