A team of Washington University researchers is working to turn locusts into biobots that can sniff out explosives. The key will be to equip the insects with three pieces of technology. It’s an exciting advancement that the team says could rebrand the locust, which is too often seen as a terrible menace. The Office of Naval Research is funding Baranidharan Raman’s research into this matter with a $750,000 three-year grant.
