The Freedom Suits Memorial Statue

Judges in the 22nd judicial circuit agreed to create a memorial statue paying tribute to 300 slaves and their lawyers who used the courts to fight for their freedom before the American Civil War. They were called the “Freedom Suits.” Preston Jackson, a master artist, was commissioned to create a statue honoring this momentous era in American history. Jackson describes the statue by explaining his concept, design and connection to the project.
