In this segment, we explore Scott Burton: Shape Shift at the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, touching on Burton’s multifaceted career as an artist, performer, public artist, curator, writer, and arts critic. We talk about how Burton’s innovative approach to art continues to resonate today. We also highlight the influence of his work on contemporary artists like Brendan Fernandes and his site-specific performance at the Pulitzer, In Two, which draws inspiration from Burton’s groundbreaking legacy.
Scott Burton: Shape Shift marks the first major survey of Burton’s work in nearly four decades since his passing, featuring pieces from the 1960s to the 1980s. This exhibition highlights how Burton’s exploration of relationships between people and furniture challenged traditional boundaries and addressed social dynamics through art-making.
The exhibition runs through February 2025. Don’t miss Brendan Fernandes’ On To performances, November 8th and 9th and January 17th and 18th.
